Gold Frankincense and Myrrh

Everyone knows the story of the Three Wise Men who travelled from far away lands to honour the baby Jesus with gifts of Gold Myrrh and Frankincense.     So as its Christmas I thought I’d write a piece about each of these gifts.

Gold

We were lucky enough to go to Greneda last year for Christmas – the beautiful spice island in the Caribbean.  We visited a garden and saw where the different species of herbs and species were grown.  One of these was Tumeric often thought of as the  ‘golden goddess’ with is bright vibrant golden colour.  But it does much more than just colour our food.

Turmeric has been used for over 2500 years in India. The health benefits of turmeric have been slowly revealing themselves over the centuries.

Turmeric contains curcumin, which is its active ingredient and it provides numerous medical advantages, as it mitigates inflammation, gives antioxidants and treats microorganisms.

The combination of raw honey and turmeric offers a extended variety of medical advantages. This blend helps digestion, battles viruses and bacteria, and manufactures the measure of good microorganisms in the intestinal tracts.

One of my favourite ways total turmeric, apart from in curries, is in a gorgeous Golden Chai latte.  Here is the recipe I use:

  • 1 mug of coconut or almond milk
  • a drop of doTerra Ginger essential oil
  • a teaspoon of turmeric
  • a drop of doTerra Cassia essential oil
  • a drop of doTerra Clove essential oil
  • raw honey to sweeten
  • Heat the coconut or almond milk in a pan.  Add all other ingredients.

This simple milk drink is great for treating coughs, colds and fever and is also just great as warming drink and a healthy alternative to coffee.

Myrrh

Records show that Myrrh was deemed so valuable that at times it was valued at its weight in gold. Myrrh essential oil is derived from the gummy resin of the small, thorny Myrrh tree and has been used for centuries for its internal and external health benefits. Myrrh has been used throughout history as a perfume, incense, and health aid. It was also employed in embalming and religious ceremonies. Myrrh has powerful cleansing properties, especially for the mouth and throat. It is also soothing to the skin—promoting a smooth, youthful-looking complexion—and promotes emotional balance and well-being when used aromatically.   Myrrh can also be used to support well-being and emotional balance

Ways to use:-

  • Add 1–2 drops to toothpaste for added cleansing benefits
  • Diffuse to help promote awareness and lift your mood.
  • Add to your lotion/moisturizer to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Add 1–2 drops to ¼ cup of water with a little agave or honey to help ease the stomach.

Frankincense

Often called the “king of oils,” Frankincense promotes feelings of peace and overall wellness when used aromatically, while topical and internal uses provide modern health benefits.

Renowned as one of the most prized and precious essential oils, Frankincense has extraordinary health benefits. In addition to its notoriety in the New Testament, the Babylonians and Assyrians would burn Frankincense in religious ceremonies and the ancient Egyptians used Frankincense resin for everything from perfume to salves for soothing skin. This centuries-old knowledge contributes to the modern uses of Frankincense today. It’s soothing and beautifying properties are used to rejuvenate skin and help reduce the appearance of imperfections when applied topically. As the king of oils, Frankincense is known to support healthy cellular function when used internally. When inhaled or diffused, Frankincense promotes feelings of peace, relaxation, satisfaction, and overall wellness.
